Seminar Aim
The aim of the program is to assist fire authorities to discharge their role in respect of fire safety.

Seminar Objectives
- The objective of the program is to update senior fire officers on recent developments in fire safety and related topics.
- The seminar will provide the information, review and discussion on a range of relevant fire safety topics outlined in the program.
- While the format of the seminar will principally be by way of presentations, there will also be opportunities for discussion and inter-active participation.
Who should attend?
The seminar is open to fire service personnel and others who possess relevant experience serving in the fire and safety sector (Fire service, industrial, military, petro-chemical industries…etc).The ranks of: Chief Fire Officer, Senior Assistant Chief Fire Officer, Senior Executive Fire Officer, Assistant Chief Fire Officer, Senior Executive Fire Prevention Officer, Executive Fire Prevention Officer and Assistant Fire Officer, Fire Safety Engineers, Safety Engineers, Fire Protection & Prevention Officers, HSE Managers. (Attendance at the seminar is also open to personnel of firefighter rank and upwards who possess an appropriate qualification and experience).
Assessments
The Seminar/Workshop is primarily educational in nature, designed to update participants’ knowledge of the environment in which they are required to discharge their responsibilities.
Dalhousie University College of Continuing Education
The Dalhousie University College of Education is dedicated to assisting adults build competencies that will enable them to shape their lives, organizations and communities. By way of its Fire Management Certificate Programs, they are delivering Fire Service courses and programs to every province and territory in Canada as well as to members of the Canadian military. Through their basic three courses Certificate in Fire Service Leadership, a prerequisite to Fire Service Administration and Incident Command Certificates, they are able to meet the advanced subject matter requirements of successful Fire Service Officers. Students are encouraged to specialize in one of three areas:
- Operational Planning,
- Strategic Planning,
- Human Resource Management.
Successfully completing the program allows the student, if they so wish, to proceed towards a Bachelor Degree at a number of Universities in Canada and the USA.
TORONTO FIRE RESCUE
Toronto Fire Rescue is the largest fire service in Canada, and the 5th largest fire service in North America. It is comprised of approximately 3,143 staff under the leadership of their Fire Chief Bill Stewart and four Deputy Chiefs. It provides “all hazards” protection to 2,724,784 residents through an organizational structure of one (1) Operations Division, divided into four (4) Geographic Commands and six (6) Support Divisions. There are 83 fire stations housing a variety of equipment including 57 pumpers; 28 rescue/pumpers; 31 aerial devices of which 26 are ladders, 3 are platforms and 2 are towers; 5 heavy rescue squads; 4 air/light units; 2 hazardous materials units; 1 high-rise unit; and 1 fireboat. Toronto Fire Rescue is a busy Fire Service responding to over 139,000 incidents per year that include approximately 9,000 of them being fire incidents.
